The Community Farm Project

Issues of higher health spending, rising food & fuel prices, suffering economies, malnutrition, food insecurity, reduction in tourism, climate-related heat, droughts and floods, job losses and incomes dropped are having a heavy burden on household welfare worldwide. With these issues in mind, we want to make a positive, sustainable impact on the world in as many ways, in as many places, for as many people and as quickly as possible. Following a trip to The Gambia at the end of 2021, where we experienced the impact that Covid-19 has had on an already suffering economy, we decided we wanted to utilise our established relationships there to create projects which could benefit The Gambia and The UK simultaneously. We are aiming to build a community farm that will enable: • Gambian people to gain essential farming and food production skills, as well as employment • a sustainable positive impact on food poverty in The Gambia and the UK • UK young people from all backgrounds to experience African culture while learning and developing new lifelong skills Our vision is to: • operate a mixture of arable and pastoral farming, using a permaculture approach • to develop a range of food products for consumption and to generate profit - which will be used to maintain the future and development of the farm. We have already acquired, through donation, both a female and male sheep, which are being kept on a basic sheep farm. Future investment is required to take the farm to the next level, and we would greatly appreciate any financial donation to support us realising our goals.
